CHARLES STREET VIDEO

TORONTO GENERAL HOSPITAL
apr 2016

manipulating data from my cranial ct scans, this video project is an embodiment of imaging and imaginging. it is also a precursor to other experiements surrounding brain injury and anomia.

the title of this work, the number 20, represents calcium in the periodic table of elements and is the substance envisioned acting as a blockade between what i am thinking and my words. my anomia. thick calcium sits, hardening, in the shadowy nook carved out by the rogue stage prop that caused my concussion. as the tip of my head pinches, words are clouded, a high-pitched ringing can be heard, and the back of my neck pulsates, causing my brain to spasm. i can almost hear it thump.

tissue is displayed in yellow here. half of the colour calcium shares when it is on fire.

this video first appeared in a group exhibition about neurology at toronto general hospital in 2016, and was modified to appear at 26 OR LESS in august 2024.
